S/West: 5 customs officers killed, 8 injured, 370 trucks of rice seized in 3 years

Five customs officers were killed, eight others sustained injuries in the line of duty, while 370 trailer loads of rice, 33 petrol tankers, 303 vehicles, among others, were seized from suspected smugglers in the South West in the last three years.

 Speaking at a brief ceremony to mark his exit as the Controller of the Federal Operations Unit (FOU), Ikeja, Mr Hussein Kehinde Ejibunu said that during his tenure 386 suspects were arrested, out of which 22 of them were convicted and were serving jail terms.

 He said, “Unfortunately, while on legitimate duties within the zone’s area of operation, eight officers sustained injuries while five lost their lives.”
