The Southern Kaduna Joint Peace Committee (SKJPC) has said it is focusing on building social cohesion and restoring peace and mutual trust among warring communities in the area.
The Co-Chairmen of SKJPC, Prof Benjamin Gugong and Dr Ahmad Mairiga Yandeh, who disclosed this at an event organised by USAID and Nigeria Early Response Initiative (NERI) in Kaduna, said the committee had since embarked on meeting stakeholders and visiting communities affected by crises to restore hope and ensure that warring parties regained their livelihoods.

They commended USAID-NERI for supporting many communities such as Kajuru, Jema’a and Zango Kataf through rebuilding of houses, installing solar streetlights and drilling boreholes in crisis-affected communities.
Dr Yandeh added that not only had the healing process been fast in communities that the organisation was carrying out intervention, but that stakeholders had been sincere in their effort for genuine peace.
In his remarks, Prof Gugong said the committee had five Muslims and Christians each as members of the committee; the essence he noted was to promote understanding and peaceful coexistence in the area.
