S/Kaduna crises: Indigenous tribes, CAN resolve to dialogue with Fulanis

Kaduna  Indigenous tribes in Southern part of Kaduna State and the state chapter of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) have resolved to dialogue with the indigenous Fulani’ s in the area on how to end the spate of crises ravaging the area.

This formed part of the resolutions reached after a Non-governmental Organization ‘Global Peace Foundation Nigeria(GPFN) met with over 60 representatives of native tribes and Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) on a Conflict Management, Resolution and Transformation consultation meeting which held in Kachia on Wednesday.

According to a statement issued by the  foundation spokesman, Richard Pius Garba at the end of the meeting; the Secretary of CAN, Kaduna State Chapter, Reverend Sunday Ibrahim echoed the Association’s commitment to come to a round table to dialogue on way out of the crises as well as revert to the old order of relationship with the Fulanis. The CAN Secretary who spoke through the Head of Administration, Haruna Michael advised security personnel to be more proactive in responding to the plight of the people rather than being reactive.

Also, the representative of World Alliance for Development, Mr. Jonah Yahaya stressed the need for the people to embrace peace and tolerates each other so as to attract investors and development to their communities.

Similarly, the Country Representative of KAICIID Dialogue Centre in Nigeria Mr. Joseph Atang appealed to the people to sheath their swords and put their differences aside and pray so that the perpetrators can be exposed.

Speaking separately at the meeting themed‘ Active involvement of Southern Kaduna Natives in peace-building process’ the Northern co-coordinators of GPFN, Reverend John Joseph Hayab and Sheikh Halliru Abdullahi Maraya stressed that no society can live in peace except the peopleagree to bury their differences and tolerate one another.

The duo advised the people to alwaysseek to redress through dialogue rather than resolving to destruction of lives and properties.

Earlier, the Country Director of GPFN, John Oko explained that the purpose of the meeting was to mediate in the peace-building process of the area. He recalled that the Foundation had earlier met with indigenous Fulanis of the area on how to bring an end to crises in the area.
