Director-General, National Council for Arts and Culture (NCAC), Otunba Olusegun Runsewe, has attributed insecurity and other social vices in Nigeria to the emulation of western culture by the youths.

He spoke at the weekend in Abuja during a youth cultural sensitisation programme with the theme ‘Nigerian Youths and Nation Building.’

He said foreign values had been promoted and popularized above the Nigerian culture “so much that transgenderism, same sex marriage, plaiting of hair by men are other immoral behavior were gaining more grounds in the society.

“The family institution is collapsing, community spirit has given way to individualism. We no longer have respect for the sanctity of the human life.

“It is therefore evident that the current security challenges in our society today and other pervading social vices are direct results of dysfunctional values and negative attitudes,” he said.

According to him, the Nigerian values remain the building blocks “for a greater Nigerian nation that will be internally secured, socially stable, economically viable and peaceful society.”

The Minister of Women Affairs, Pauline Tallen, stressed the need for youths to always embrace the culture of tolerance for peaceful coexistence in the country.
