Rotary trains medical personnel in hospitals

The Rotary International says it has trained more than 60 medical personnel in tertiary hospitals across the country to handle maternal and infant mortality reduction.

The National Coordinator of Rotary International programme on Reduction of Maternal Infant Mortality,

Professor Adedolapo Lufadeju, said yesterday in Uyo during the training of maternal matrons and medical record officers that recent reports showed about 576 deaths out of every 100,000 births had been recorded in the country.

He said the programme aimed at training medical personnel on how to keep records of maternal and infant mortality in a data base.

Also speaking, Professor Oladapo Shittu, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, called on relevant stakeholders to extend helping hands to pregnant women in their communities by enlightening pregnant women on the need to go for antenatal clinic.
