The Rotary Club of Abeokuta Royal has distributed pads to students of the Baptist Girls College, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta, Ogun State, as part of the activities marking this year’s International Day of the Girl Child.
A student’s Interact club was inaugurated at the event, tagged “Pad of 500 Girls,” organized by the Rotary Club in collaboration with the Ogun State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development.
Speaking at the event, Rotarian Ganiyat Kazeem, the president of the Rotary Club of Abeokuta Royal, lamented that the economic hardship had made it difficult for some young girls to purchase pads.
She said the cost of sanitary pads had increased from N180 to N2,000.

“Pad is an essential thing for every lady while growing up; it is part of our personal hygiene. We are here to encourage and help these girls because, despite the economic challenges, a girl must always stand out,” Kazeem said.
Hassan also highlighted the persistent issue of gender inequality, particularly in education and employment opportunities for girls.
