Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr has revealed that he’s mulling over inviting at least three new players to strengthen his squad ahead of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.
Derby County’s new recruit Efe Ambrose has been in the international wilderness since the German took over the reins three years ago, and the other two players being considered are Fortuna Düsseldorf youth-teamer Maduka Okoye and Wolfsburg’s Felix Uduokhai.
Speaking to reporters in Asaba, Rohr said: “We are looking at the prospect of giving opportunities to more Nigerian players plying their trade abroad to get to look at them.
“We are looking at Efe Ambrose, Maduka Okoye, Felix Uduokhai and a host of other players with a view to seeing them in the colours of Nigeria.
“If they perform exceptionally better than those we already have. They have a better chance of being included in the final preparations.”
Okoye was one of the players invited to the Dream Team for their qualifiers against Libya but Fortuna Düsseldorf prevented him from traveling to Africa as he had just returned from a long-term injury.
If central defender Uduokhai decides to commit his international future to Nigeria, he has to apply for a one-time change of association since he has played competitively for Germany’s U21 national team.
