Robbery suspects held in Ogun ‘on their way to operation’

Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested two robbery suspects who they alleged were “on their way” to commit robbery along Awa Ijebu/Ijebu Ode expressway.

The suspects, Ayomide Odukoya and Abiodun Oyenuga, both 32 years old, were accosted on August 25, 2020 on the Awa Ijebu-Ijebu Ode expressway by a team led by the Divisional Police Officer, Awa Ijebu, Adewalehinmi Joseph.

A statement on Sunday by the Ogun State police spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the suspects, who were on a motorcycle, quickly jumped off the bike and took to their heels when they sighted the police team.

Oyeyemi said the operatives chased them and  were able to arrest Odukoya with a locally made cut-to-size double-barrel gun, while the second suspect escaped through the nearby bush.

He said the arrested suspect gave the police useful information that led to Oyenuga’s arrest in Sagamu on August 28, 2020.

“Odukoya informed the police on interrogation that his fleeing partner was the person who invited him from Ijebu-Ode for a robbery operation and that they were just going to carry out the operation when they were accosted by the police,” he added.

Oyeyemi said that the Ogun State Commissioner of Police,  Edward Ajogun, had ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad for further investigation.
