Residents of Minna, the Niger State capital, have said armed robbers now move around with the Point of Sale (POS) machines to rob their victims at the night.
City & Crime gathered that during operations, robbers forcefully collect ATM cards and pins from victims and make transfers of monies from their bank accounts. They also reportedly dispossess them of their mobile phones.
One of the victims in the Tunga Area of Minna, Yakubu Suleiman, told our correspondent that the day robbers entered his house, N50,000 was transferred from his account while his phones and that of his wife were also taken away.
“The day they came to my house, they first collected my phones and that of my wife before they brought out a PoS machine and asked me to bring my ATM card. I gave them and they inserted it into the machine and asked me to put my pins which I did. They transferred N50,000 that I had left in my account and left,” he said.
He said they later moved to the neighboring houses where N200,000 was transferred from his neighbour’s account.
He added that, “My neighbour had other accounts but he gave them the ATM card of the account containing N200, 000. They will first check your account balance before making the transfer. If you attempt to drag with them, they threaten to matchet you. So, we didn’t even drag with them.”
