Robbers kill policeman in Ekiti bank robbery

A policeman has been killed in a robbery attack at a commercial bank at Otun-Ekiti, in Mona Local Government Area of Ekiti State.

Confirming the robbery attack on the bank, the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, ASP Sunday Abutu, said the robbers attacked the bank with dynamite.

Abutu said the men of the command and the military attached to the area engaged the robbers in a gun duel, which led to the loss of one of the mobile police at the scene.

“There was a bank robbery yesterday at Otun-Ekiti around 5 pm and in the process of a shootout between our men and the armed robbers, we unfortunately lost one of our men.”

The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Tunde Mobayo, has ordered a full investigation into the incident to ensure the armed robbers were arrested and brought to book.

Mobayo, who urged members of the public to go about their normal business assured them of the police readiness to protect their lives and property at all times.
