Armed robbers have invaded the Akwa Ibom State Newspaper Corporation and reportedly killed a security guard.
It was gathered that on Friday night, the robbers invaded the premises of the state-owned newspaper, the publisher of Pioneer Newspaper, along Information Drive in Uyo and carted away some items including a generator set, televisions and cables.
It was learnt that in the process, an adhoc security guard on duty, Mr Edet Obot, was shot dead.
Sources within the newspaper corporation confirmed the incident to our correspondent on Monday, expressing sadness at the death of the security guard.

“The incident probably happened with the help of an insider. It is very distressing that the security guard was killed. He was not a staff,” one of the soures said.
The General Manager of the newspaper, Mr Umoette Umoette, did not not pick up his when contacted by our correspondent.
The Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Timfon John, promised to get back to our correspondent on the matter but had not done so as of the time of filing this report.
