Suspected armed robbers, Sunday, robbed a 32-year-old woman of N222, 000 at gun point near Yambabu village, along Kwaita-Yebu road in Kwali Area Council of Abuja.
A witness said that the incident happened at about 5:12am when some suspected robbers emerged from the bush with locally made guns and flagged-down the vehicle in which the woman was travelling.
He said that the woman, who gave her name as Mercy Obinna, was a trader who resided at Unguwar Tumbu in Suleja, Niger State.
He said that she was on her way to Kwaku village market to buy melon seeds (egwusi) when the suspected robbers attacked the vehicle she was traveling in and dispossessed her of the money.
The witness said that the robbers, eight in number, started shooting in the air when they saw the vehicle advancing, adding that two other passengers inside the Volkswagen Golf car were also robbed of their money.
“The woman used to go to Kwaku market every Sunday, to buy melon and some other farm produce and take to Suleja to sell, “he said.
It was further learnt that the suspected robbers took advantage of the absence of vigilantes, who, at the time, were yet to come for duty at their checkpoint, and robbed their victims.
When contacted, the Kwali Divisional Police Crime Officer (DCO) Samuel Adamu, said that he was not aware of the incident.
The City News gathered that a similar incident happened, last month at Kanzo village, when a trader was attacked and robbed at gun point by suspected robbers, while on her way to Takwa market to buy farm produce.
