Robbers Beat Up Pregnant Woman in Oyo, Seize Baby Items

Men of the Oyo State Police Command have arrested suspected robbers who physically assaulted a pregnant woman in 2023.

The police also said that they recovered all items including baby clothes and accessories and a Toyota Venza car of the woman’s husband stolen by the criminals.

The command disclosed this in a statement by its Public Relations Officer, SP Adewale Osifeso, on Wednesday.

In a statement published on the command’s X account, Osifeso also said the assailants almost killed the woman’s husband in the robbery carried out mid-July 2023.

The Oyo PPRO said the woman was being driven to the hospital by her husband for delivery in July last year when the criminals attacked them and beat the woman.

Osifeso wrote, “It was a clear dark night in mid-July 2023 when Lara and her husband (Not their real names) were heading out to the hospital. Lara was already feeling labour spasms and hubby had to hurry. They were attacked by a suspected robbery syndicate who beat Lara up.”

“It was even worse for the husband who tried to play a hero as he was almost killed. That chilled night in July 2023, the suspects parted with 2 bags filled with baby clothing and accessories and their Toyota Venza vehicle.
“Oyo Police was able to recover all the stolen items, inclusive of the Venza. We are particularly elated that the baby boy is about (6) months now. (Mommy had him that night). What a way to celebrate Valentine.”

Robbery cases are gradually returning to society as the Lagos police also arrested two suspected armed robbers on Monday in Lekki.

According to a statement by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the arrest was made while the criminals were watching AFCON final match against Nigeria and Cote D’Ivoire.

A victim who was robbed on January 22, reported them to the police after sighting them at a bar at Ibeju-Lekki.

He said that the victim went to the Elemoro Police Division at about 9.50 p.m. to make a report while the football match was still on and operatives swung into action immediately to nab them.

The suspects – Frank Ikechukwu and Anayo Chibundu – were apprehended and two vehicles, a Honda Accord Registered JJJ 232 JH and a Toyota Camry APP 870 JD, were recovered from them.
