Four people including two police officers and two civilians were killed on Thursday in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital when armed robbers numbering seven attacked a bullion van and carted away an undisclosed amount of money.

The State Commissioner of Police in the state, Ngozi Onadeko, who visited the scene of the incident, confirmed that two police officers died in the attack, saying they were shot in the neck.

Onadeko further said that the officers also killed one of the robbers but the corpse was taken away by the robbery gang.

The police boss said that in and out of the state has been knocked down in other to prevent the robbers from getting out of the state.

The CP said the police, in connection with other security agencies in the state, are working hand in hand to arrest the robbers, adding that more details would be provided on the matter.

Daily Trust learnt that many people were injured during the incident which occurred around Idi-Ape area of Ibadan.

It was gathered that the bullion van was coming from Iwo Road area and was attacked around Idi-Ape area by the robbers who were shooting sporadically into the air to scare the passers-by.

A witness told Daily Trust that the robbers drove in a white Sienna saloon car and engaged the police officers escorting the van in a gun duel.

Our correspondent who visited the scene of the attack reports that two police officers lost their lives while others got injured during the cross fire while stray bullet killed two other civilians, among whom, was a motorcyclist.

A witness further told Daily Trust that the robbers later forcefully opened the bullion van with gun and carted away money in the van.
