Armed robbers are now terrorising users of Automated Teller Machines (ATM) in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, City & Crime learnt.

At the weekend, a graduate of computer science, Femi Olaniyi Adebayo, and one other man were shot dead after they withdrew money from ATMs.

While Adebayo, was killed at the Ajinde area of Ire-Akari Estate, Ibadan, on Saturday night, the other man was killed in front of Fresh FM, Ibadan, on Friday afternoon.

A relation told City & Crime that, “The 29-year-old Adedayo went with his car to withdraw money at an ATM at Orita Challenge at about 7 pm on Saturday. He was trailed by an Okada with two men. The robbers followed him to Ireakari Estate and overtook him at Ajinde and blocked him and his fiancée.

“According to his fiancée, the robbers requested the money he withdrew and that he told them he had delivered the money to the owner.

“She said, ‘They didn’t believe him fired several shots on his chest. They collected the money, my phones and my handbag.”

Similarly, a quarry worker was shot dead after withdrawing N250,000 to pay his workers around Challenge Tollgate on Friday afternoon.

Our correspondent, who visited the scene of the incident shortly thereafter, reports that there were blood stains on the floor.

A witness told City & Crime that the robbers, one of them the motorcycle who was conveying the man after he withdrew the money, shot him in front of Fresh FM and went away with the money.

He further said, “We were here when we heard the gunshot. The man was a quarry worker and he fell down after he was shot. The motorcyclist and his accomplices escaped.

“It was later when his people came to take his remains that they told him he came to town to withdraw N250,000 for his workers.”

When contacted, the state’s police spokesman, Adewale Osifeso, said an investigation was ongoing on the two robbery incidents, and that the public would be updated accordingly.
