The Kwara State Government Commissioner for Environment, Mallam Shehu Ndanusa Usman, has noted that road medians in the state have been turned to refuse dumps.
Mallam Usman who disclosed this during a meeting with waste consultants in the state at the weekend, said, “Waste management consultants were engaged to complement government’s efforts at maintaining a clean and hygienic environment by evacuating wastes in all the nooks and crannies of the state, but to our dismay, some of you are performing below expectation.
“We often receive a lot of complaints from residents that you don’t make yourselves available despite being paid for your services at the end of the month. This singular act of yours is causing us sleepless nights at the ministry because our road medians have been turned into refuse dump sites which may lead to an epidemic if unchecked.”
Ndanusa advised them to engage stakeholders in areas for collaboration.
