Nasarawa State Sector Commander of the Federal Roads Safety Corps (FRSC), Ahmed Mohammed, says 75 people have died, while 585 had been injured out of 289 crashes in the State between January and November this year.
The State Sector Commander said this during the flag-off of this year’s ember months safety campaign with the theme: “Drive safe, stay safe” held at Lafia Motor Park.

According to Mohammed, “These figures are high and regrettable considering the United Nations decade of action on Road Safety and the FRSC corporate strategic goals of reducing road traffic crashed by fifteen percent.”
He said about 1.25 million people died globally every year as a result of injuries with many incurring permanent disabilities.
In his remarks, Director of Road Traffic, Nasarawa State Ministry of Works, Victor Iya, said ninety percent of most road traffic crashes were due to human factors.
According to him, motorists must be conscious of the ember month’s period with high vehicular movement.
Iya, who advised motorists on the use of roadworthy vehicles, said the event was meant to sensitise the motoring public on the dangers of reckless driving.
