A total number of 101 persons were killed and 758 injured in roads accidents recorded by the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) in Nasarawa state between January and June this year.
Corps Marshal of FRSC, Boboye Oyeyemi, who disclosed this yesterday at Lafia central motorpark at the flag off of ‘Ember Months’ campaign and Sallah sensitization programme, said Nasarawa state is ranked third in roads accidents cases in the country.
He said “The record is between January and June. Nasarawa state also came sixth with regards to people that died due to road traffic crashes within this same period. 101 persons were recorded to have died in the state”.
Oyeyemi revealed further that more than 50 percent of road traffic crashes across the country were caused by over speeding and many of the vehicles affected were commercial vehicles with innocent lives at risk.
He said the recent statistics prompted the FRSC to introduce the speed limiting device to motorists in a bid to reduce roads traffic crashes across the country. The FRSC boss appealed to motorists to purchase the Speed Limiting Device before the 1st of October when enforcement of the device will be fully in place. He was also in Kaduna state for the campaign.
