Over 500 residents of Ahoada community in Ahoada east local government area of Rivers State have benefited from the 6 Division of the Nigeria Army , Port Harcourt medical outreach.
The Division also constructed a bole hole for the residents of Abarikpo community in Ahoada.
Residents comprising old men and women , boys , girls and children were treated of various illnesses such as malaria, typhoid fever while others were given drugs for other medical issues such as high blood pressure and high sugar level.
Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of the medical outreach, the Garrison Commander of , 6 Division of the Nigeria Army, Brigadier Gen Suleman Tilawan, said the outreach and construction of bole hole for the residents is part of the military civil relations of the Nigeria Army.
He said the Nigeria Army apart from carrying out military operations also has military civilian relationship where medical services and other social services are provided for the residents as well as construction of bole hole.
General Tilawan said the medical outreach and bole hole delivered to the community is part of the Nigeria Army’s on going ‘Exercise Water Still 2022’, inuagurated by the Chief of Army Staff.
“The medical outreach and the bole hole we constructed for Abarikpo community in Ahoada is in keeping with the spirit of the Nigeria Army civil relations. The Nigeria Army apart from carrying out it’s military operations also have civil military relations where we carry out social services to the civil community. We have deployed medical personnels and procured enough drugs to cater for the residents”
“Our medical personnel as you can see have attended to many of the residents with different medical issues. You can see old men and women, boys and girls and children being attended to by our medical personnel. You can also see the expression on the faces of the beneficiaries they are all smiling and happy with what we have done. We have also constructed bole hole to Abarikpo community in Ahoada all this are geared towards our military civil relations policy,” he said.
The Chairman of Ahoada east local government area, Barrister Ben Eke, said the medical outreach is coming at a good time when many of the residents of Ahoada displaced by rampaging flood are returning back to their respective homes.
He commended the Nigerian Army for considering Ahoada community for it’s medical outreach.
Some of the beneficiaries of the medical outreach expressed joy that they were treated of various illnesses and given prescription drugs.
Chief Eke Ikiriko, a beneficiary, said he was treated of malaria and given drugs for high blood pressure.
