Rector of the polytechnic, Obianku Elechi, said the development was as a result of a riot which broke out in the polytechnic’s campus. He said problem started when Akwa Ibom students’ union election was disrupted by a student.
He said in order to avert break down of law and order, the student was arrested by the school security personnel and taken into custody, adding: “Immediately the student was arrested, there was rumour that he had been killed by the police. As a result of that rumour, Akwa Ibom students in the polytechnic closed the entrance gate and started destroying school property.”
