Nigerian representatives in this year’s CAF Confederation Cup, Rivers United and Plateau United, are targeting away victories against two Libyan clubs with the hope of reaching the group stage in the second tier CAF Inter-club competition.
In today’s fixtures, Rivers United will battle Al Nasr of Benghazi while Plateau United have Al Akhdar SC also of Libya to contend with in the other return leg of the Confederation Cup playoff clash.
The two NPFL clubs are going into the matches in highly advantageous positions having won the first leg encounters at home by wide margins.
Last Wednesday, Rivers United pummelled Al Nasr 5-0 in Port-Harcourt while Plateau United hammered Al Akhdar 4-1 at the MKO Abiola national stadium in Abuja.
Although the results put the Nigerians in good stead going into the return fixtures, they are still wary due to their bitter experiences in the hands of Wydad Casablanca and Esperance of Tunisia in the CAF Champions League.
The NPFL clubs are, therefore, hoping to make amends for the painful defeats when they face the Libyans this afternoon.
Winners on aggregate over two legs will qualify for the mouth-watering group stage.
