The council, which supported the PDP’s presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, announced their support for President Tinubu following the Supreme Court’s ruling declaring him as the duly elected President of Nigeria.

Sekibo, speaking at the press conference, said, “We have just risen from a meeting of the leadership of the former Rivers State PDP Presidential Campaign Council and members of the PDP in Rivers State who stood by the party after the National Convention of our party produced our presidential candidate, His Excellency Atiku Abubakar, Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON), Vice President, Federal Republic of Nigeria (1999-2007), Wazirin Adamawa.”

He continued, “The elections are since over and the Supreme Court has ruled on the finality of that contest, pronounced His Excellency Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Grand Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic (GCFR) as the duly elected President of Nigeria. We stand by that verdict.”

Sekibo also pledged their total loyalty and support for Governor Siminalayi Fubara, who has been in a running battle with his successor and FCT minister, Nyesom Wike. He urged both Governor Fubara and President Tinubu to work together for the good of Rivers people, emphasising the need for real governance for the progress of the nation.

He expressed concern over recent disturbances in Rivers State and condemned the disrespect towards former Governor Peter Odili and his wife, Justice Mary Peter-Odili, urging the president to keep a close eye on the FCT minister.
