The governorship candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the March 18, governorship election in Rivers State, Beatrice Itubor, has attributed her defeat to massive electoral fraud, harassment and intimidation of voters.
In an interview with Daily Trust, Itubor said the Obidient wave that swept across the country would have performed the magic wand for her but for electoral fraud allegedly by the ruling party in the state.
She said there were reported cases of ballot box snatching, beating of party agents and harassment of the electorate.
She noted that on election day, LP agents were chased away from the polling units while there was hijacking of electoral materials by thugs.

She noted that prior to the governorship election in the state, traditional rulers from some communities sent town criers to warn those who would not want to vote for a particular political party to stay off the polling units, alluding that such warning was responsible for the voter apathy that marred the election.
