The crisis in the Rivers State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) appears to be deepening amid claims and counter claims over the leadership of the party.
On Saturday, June 13, 2020, the Rivers State Caretaker Executive Committee Meeting of the APC presided by the Chairman, Rt. Hon. Igo Aguma held with 20 statutory members present even as a chieftain of the APC in the state, Barrister Isaac Abbot Ogbobula called on all statutory members of the state Executive Committee of the party to disregard Saturday’s virtual meeting.
According to a statement issued on Saturday by Livingstone Wechie, Media Adviser to Aguma, in Abuja, the well-attended meeting held and fruitful deliberations were made.
Aguma, according to the statement, made it clear that the primary focus of the Caretaker Committee is reconciliation and the conduct of Congresses.
The statement said the Executive Committee mandated the Chairman to consult widely and come up with a comprehensive draft working paper on the way forward for the party that will be deliberated upon in the next Executive Committee meeting.
“The Chairman is using this opportunity to call on all APC members in Rivers state to support the Caretaker Committee to reposition the party back to its winning ways,” the statement said.
Meanwhile Barrister Ogbobula has called on all statutory members of the state Executive Committee of the party in Rivers State to disregard the virtual meeting held by Hon. Igo Aguma.
He insisted that he remains the Caretaker Committee Chairman of the party in the state having filed an appeal along with a Motion on Notice for injunction pending appeal/stay of execution on June 10, 2020 against the judgment of the Rivers State High Court, which had confirmed Aguma as the Caretaker Committee Chairman of the party in the state.
He added that he and members of the Caretaker Committee shall in due course by a well publicised notice, call a proper meeting of the appropriate organ of the party in furtherance of the activities of the Party.
