Ritualists mutilate corpse kept for burial in Ekiti

People suspected to be ritualists have plucked out the eyes and tongue of the corpse of a teenage boy kept for burial in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State.

It was gathered that the boy, identified as Goodluck, sustained an injury on his leg while playing football and later fell sick as a result of an infection and died.

A source explained that the corpse was kept in a room in preparation for his burial but that his mother and other sympathisers woke up to see the body mutilated.

The source said, “His eyes were removed and his tongue cut off, while some parts of the flesh around his mouth were also cut off.”

Residents of Oke Oniyo Street in Ajilosun, who were yet to unravel those that committed the act, said the corpse was brought by the family in the evening from where he went for treatment.

It was also revealed that the corpse was left in the room with two other people as his mother was advised not to sleep with it.

It was further gathered that the police are investigating the matter and have invited two people. However, there was no response from the police on the incident.
