Speaking on behalf of the residents, Alhaji Abdur Rahman Yahya said the fence was necessary to prevent people from trespassing the cemetery.

Yahya who was at the Media Trust Limited office in Kano, lamented that the cemetery was being used by motorists and other road users, saying that this desecrates the sacredness of the site.

He stated that because of the proximity of the cemetery to residential areas the fencing was imperative.

The spokesman said they had taken their complaint to the council chairman but up till now nothing has been done to address the problem.
