Human rights activists and groups have called on the Federal Government to end the killings by bandits in Zamfara State.
The activists are Femi Falana, Dr Kolawole Olaniyan, Dr Chidi Odinkalu, Dr Abiola Akiyode-Afolabi, Adetokunbo Mumuni, Lanre Suraj and Malachi Ugwummadu
The groups are the Amnesty International Nigeria, the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project, the Human and the Environmental Development Agenda, the Women Advocates Research and Documentation Centre, the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights and the Transition Monitoring Group.
In a joint statement yesterday, they called for the immediate end to the involvement of the army in the maintenance of internal security in the country as it had always led to wanton killings of innocent people.
The activists said they also wanted an immediate end to the alleged harassment and intimidation of the people of Zamfara State by the army.
They urged the federal government to recruit and train adequate number of police personnel to secure the country and to pay adequate compensation to the families of those killed by bandits and soldiers in the state.
