Truck drivers in Onitsha, Anambra State have protested against the activities of touts collecting levies despite the ban on the collection of illegal revenues in the state by the state government.
An eyewitness, Uche Chikere, said the activities of the tout caused an accident at Upper Iweka Onitsha when a truck fell into a gutter while the driver was escaping from the illegal revenue collectors.

“The truck driver lost control of the vehicle and fell into a gutter. The driver jumped out of the motor but his conductor was not lucky as the truck fell on his leg. He was trapped for over three hours,” he said.
Another eyewitness, Chukwu Uzo, said the accident caused traffic gridlock on major Onitsha roads linking the Upper Iweka Roundabout, Awka Road; Bridge Head to Upper Iweka, Owerri Road and Ezeiweka Road.
Anambra State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Mr Adeoye Irelewuyi, confirmed that the drivers were protesting against the activities of the touts which led to the crash in the first place.
He said the conductor had been rescued and taken to Boromeo Hospital for treatment.
