The traditional ruler of Idjerhe Kingdom in Jesse, Delta State, Monday Whiskey, has appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to move the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) from the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs back to the presidency for easy administration and effective service delivery.
He said the appeal became necessary due to undue interference by the officials of the ministry in the activities of the commission, leading to many abandoned projects in the Niger Delta region.
Addressing journalists yesterday in his palace, the monarch alleged that there was an attempt to starve the new board of the NDDC of funding.
According to him, if the commission is domiciled at the presidency like the North East Development Commission, undue interference from the ministry would be very minimal.

“We believe that the new board would work better if they are answerable to the presidency rather than politically inclined individuals at the ministry,” he said.
The monarch also appealed for adequate funding for the commission to enable it effectively carry out projects and responsibilities for the benefit of the oil producing communities.
