‘Retirement should be a thing of joy’

The Managing Director of Neilville Nigeria Ltd, Mr. Nelson Nweke, has charged Nigerians, especially those who are just starting their career and those almost retiring, to be forthright with “planning, self-development, and financial discipline” regardless of their age, experience or position, saying this will set them up for success later in life.

He gave the charge while addressing staff of C & I Leasing Plc, as part of activities to mark the International Men’s Day, hosted by the leasing and ancillary services conglomerate in Lagos.

According to Nweke, who is also a life fellow of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN), “Retirement can be a thing of joy. If you lack financial discipline, you will end up retiring poor. As a man, you should not wait till everything is perfect before you start planning your retirement.”

“You did not invent yourself and you cannot re-invent what you cannot create rather you are to find out why you were created, what you were created for, what are the things you are meant to do, who are the people to help you on your journey, and how much time you have to accomplish it,” he said.

In his remarks, the Managing Director/CEO of C&I Leasing, Andrew Otike-Odibi, said the company continually seeks to inspire, motivate and provide an experience sharing platform on issues surrounding all men including sons, brothers, fathers, uncles and grandfathers.

He urged the men to “lead by example, learn to listen more and walk their talk by determination and discipline.”

“As men here, I’d like us to remember that it is not what we say that people pick up; but it is what we do, and how we live our lives, and how we work,” he said.

Similar activities were also held at the C & I Leasing’s Port Harcourt office, as the company’s staff in Abuja, Benin, Enugu and Calabar joined the Lagos office remotely via video conference. Some hardworking employees were also rewarded with certificates of excellence while others go home with shopping vouchers, the company said.
