Retirees want gov’ts to implement N30,000 minimum pension

The 19 Northern States Forum of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners has urged state governors to implement the N30,000 minimum pension to ease the hardship of pensioners in the country.

Chairman of the forum Comrade Abdullahi Tsoho Garba made the call after the forum’s meeting in Kaduna recently.

He, decried the over 20 years benefit arrears of its members in parts of the North, particularly in Zamfara State and appealed to Governor Bello Matawalle to review the arrears and ensure immediate payment to the beneficiaries.

The chairman, who appreciated officials of the Pension Transition Directorate (PTAD) for recent successful verification of pensioners cross the country, observed that some of their members in Jigawa, Kano and a few other states were not captured in the verification exercise.

He, therefore, called on the directorate, “to go back to the states concerned and carry out a mop-up exercise of the affected pensioners soonest and resume their pension payment accordingly.
