Retired perm-sec stabbed to death in Niger

A retired permanent secretary with the Niger State Ministry of Works, Adamu Jagaba, was reportedly killed on Saturday.

He was reportedly stabbed several times at his block molding site along the PDP Secretariat road in Minna, the state capital, and his vehicle driven away.

One of the sources, who preferred anonymity, said “He retired as a permanent secretary, Niger State Ministry of Works. He operates a block industry at the bypass along PDP Secretariat. No one knows what happened for now.”

When contacted, the spokesman of the Niger State Police Command, SP Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the incident.

He said police operatives had arrested an 18-year-old car painter, Fatiyah Abdulhakeem of Tayi Village, Bosso Minna in connection with the murder.

SP Wasiu Abiodun said he was arrested with the deceased’s car at Bosso Estate, which he took after killing him.

He said, ‘’After the circulation of the vehicle’s details to all police points and formations within the state, on the same date at about 7pm, the police crack squad of the command, intercepted the vehicle along Bosso Estate road, Minna with the suspect, named Fatiyah Abdulhakeem, aged 18 of Tayi Village via Bosso Minna.

Abiodun said the suspect conspired with some workers at the victim’s block industry to carry out the killing.

He said, “During interrogation, the suspect confessed to being the victim’s car painter and visited him at his block industry located at Eastern Bye-pass, via Maitumbi, opposite PDP Secretariat, Minna.

He said after discussing changing the vehicle’s bumper, he deliberately stabbed the deceased severally on the head and neck and also hit him multiple times before taking away his Toyota Camry vehicle with Reg. No. MNA 61 AE.

“He confessed further that he conspired with some of the deceased’s workers, who gave him the target and more information in carrying out the crime. He said he had other gang members he does such heinous acts with, as he mentioned their names for investigation. ‘’Effort is ongoing to apprehend the members and the suspect will be charged to court for prosecution, immediately after investigation,’’ Abiodun said.
