Respite for motorists as Niger sacks traders from Madalla highway

Motorists who ply the Abuja-Kaduna highway have commended the bold step taken by the Niger State Government of driving traders off the highway around the Madalla Market close to the FCT.

City & Crime reports that Gov Muhammad Umar Bago led a task force to the area penultimate Thursday when traders usually attended the weekly market and sent them away from the road.

Our reporter who visited the market yesterday reports that the tempo was sustained during the week as various security personnel were seen by the highway sending off traders from the road into the market.

The Director General, Niger State Traffic Management Agency (NISTMA), Muhammad Auwal Dattijo, who was seen leading the operation, told City & Crime that motorists that usually parked to either drop or pick passengers had been restricted to do so only within the filling stations on both sides around the location.
