Residents urged to care for the elderly

Residents have been urged to always inculcate the habit of sending aged people to the old people’s home where they can receive better treatment instead of leaving them without care givers at home.

 The chairman of the Abuja Chapter of Ijaw Women Connect, Mrs Embeleakpo Ebi Ogriki who said this while donating some items to the Amazing Grace Foundation that manages a home for the old people in Kado on Saturday also urged the government to establish more homes for the elderly citizens.

 She said residents should desist from the habit of leaving their parents and grandparents at home alone or with maids that can’t properly care for them considering their peculiarities.

 “I will want to advise men and women that have an aged parents to take care of their parents and where they are not able to do so due to the exigency of work rather than leave them at home with nobody to talk to them, they can bring them to the old peoples home,” she said.

 She said the effort of the group was part of the activities of celebrating its second anniversary, adding medical screening was also conducted for the old people at the home.

 “The government must make provision for old people and consider them first especially while they are on queue; their pension should be paid regularly and not make them suffer,” she said.
