A day-old baby girl abandoned on a roadside by an unidentified mother around the Mile 1 area of Gidan Waya axis in Jema’a Local Government Area of Kaduna State has been saved.
An eye witness, Mrs Godiya Dauda, who disclosed this to our reporter, said people were alerted by one Mr Daniel, a brother to her husband, who sighted the infant between 7 and 8pm on Sunday night when he was returning home.

She said they immediately took the baby before she could be harmed by an animal or injured by a vehicle.
Godiya added that the baby was a day-old and well dressed before she was abandoned there.
“As we carried the baby, I saw a letter written by the unidentified mother of the baby which read: “Whoever found the baby should please take good care of her as I am not going to reclaim the girl forever. I am not in the capacity to take care of her.”
Mr Daniel, who found the baby and Mrs Godiya reported the case at the Kafanchan Divisional Police Station and were referred to the Jema’a Local Government Secretariat where they met the local government chairman, Yunana Markus Barde, who handed over the baby to Mr Daniel who promised to take good care of her.
“We named her Alheri Daniel,” Godiya said.
Efforts to reach the Kaduna Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Muhammed Jalige, for confirmation were not successful as he did not pick our reporter’s call.
