One of the victims of the phone robbery, Salihu Idris, an estate agent, said he could not believe it when two young men attacked and dispossessed him of his phone in a low-cost area of Funtua.

“I was responding to a chat by the roadside when one of the boys snatched my phone, I struggled and grabbed him before the other man stabbed the nape of my neck with a dagger; I raised alarm but there was nobody to help me out in the quiet area, that was how they escaped with the phone. I took myself to hospital for emergency attention, thank God, I survived it,” he said.

Idris added that in most cases, the robbers operate in pairs to avoid attracting the attention of people before they strike.

Another victim who luckily escaped being hurt, Ibrahim Kabir, said his phone was snatched two weeks ago at Bagari.

He also expressed fears that if drastic measures were not taken urgently, the ugly situation might escalate to become intractable.

When contacted, the police public relations officer, Katsina state command, ASP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, said efforts were in place to arrest the menace of phone snatching.
