Residents lament as road collapses after downpour in Ogun

Residents of Ilaro, the headquarters of Yewa South LGA of Ogun State, have lamented the collapse of a dilapidated bridge on the Fufu Stream on Odo Fufu Road after a downpour at the weekend.

It was gathered that the mini bridge was mostly used by the students, staff and other members of the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, community.

The residents called on Governor Dapo Abiodun to come to their aid and fix the road.

“They will have to seek alternative routes to connect with the other parts of the town, which will as well come with additional stress and monetary commitment.

“This is a sincere appeal to the Prince Abiodun-led government to as a matter of urgency step in to find a palliative or permanent solution to the portion of the Tunde Ibikunle Road.”

Amos Oguns, another resident, disclosed that the Senator representing Ogun West, Olamilekan Adeola, had once indicated interest in fixing the collapsed portion of the road, urging the senator to hasten the process.

An elder, Mr Tunji Alabi, also urged the government to take cognizance of the fact that schools would soon resume.

He said, “The closure of that road due to its present condition would affect pupils when schools finally resume. Children and teachers who ply that road to access their schools would have to seek other farther routes. You know how much this would cost with this fuel subsidy removal.”
