Some residents of the area who confided in Daily Trust revealed that the incident occurred on Sunday when one of the suspected kidnappers confessed to have taken part in the criminal act and mentioned some names as his accomplices.

“What happened was that there is a man whose child was kidnapped some time ago and he had to pay ransom to recover the child. Then recently another child of his was kidnapped and the people of the village resorted to prayers and sacrifices for God to unravel whoever is behind the crime.

“On Sunday one man came out to confess that he was one of the kidnappers and mentioned others who took part in the act, and that was how the people of the village attacked them and began to manhandle them,” the source said.

Another source that corroborated the first one added that the culprits mentioned where the abducted boy was taken to and he was recovered but some of the abductors have passed away while others are currently receiving treatment at a hospital called Kwandala in Malumfashi town.

In a related development, suspected gunmen have attacked and kidnapped a patent medicine store owner at Dayi village, also in Malunfashi LGA.

A witness told Daily Trust that the gunmen came on motorbikes, carved an opening through the backyard of the victim’s resident and whisked him away.

He said a team of police and civil defence officers were there to rescue the man but the kidnappers escaped with the man after exchange of gunfire.

When contacted, the state police spokesman, SP Gambo Isah, confirmed the Dayi incident but said he was yet to be briefed on the Unguwar Gambo incident as at time of filing this report.
