Some aid workers said many civilians fled their homes when the attack lasted.
“We have been hearing heavy sounds for more than two hours now, it all started at about 6:30 pm, we are trapped as I speak to you.
“Dikwa is under attack by Boko Haram. Please, pray us and the troops,” one of the aid workers said.
A resident of Dikwa, Abdul Mohid, said that the military, backed by air support, battled the insurgents.
A security source confirmed the incident, but said that the troops repelled the attack.
