Residents decry incessant attacks at Tunga Maje

One of the residents, Malam Illiya, who said he was recently attacked by armed robbers, told City News that last Wednesday at about 6 p.m., robbers stormed his residence and robbed them of their belongings.
He alleged that one of his sons called the police when the robbery was going on but that the police told him that the people were cultists but not robbers.
“How can cultists come to our house with AK47 and shot guns? The police in Zuba should be able to answer this because it has become a daily occurrence now,” he said.
Another resident, Adebayo Tunde, a taxi driver, said that he was stopped in a broad day light at Tunga Maje by robbers numbering about five.
The man hinted that every taxi driver was stopped last Thursday morning at the community, adding that; “Initially I thought it was a demonstration or riot of some kind until a gun was pointed at my head and the four passengers I had with me were robbed. They threatened to shoot us if they did not get sufficient amount of monies from us,” he stated.
When contacted, the Zuba Divisional Police Officer, Chief Superintendent Adelegan Femi, said the police killed five suspected robbers terrorising the area recently and that there have not been reports of robbery incident reported at the division.
He however confirmed that there was an incident of disagreement between cultists and the residents of the area, adding that the police have since brought the situation under control.
“I have recently constituted over 50 vigilante groups and robust patrol teams that fight criminals in the division, especially at Tunga Maje axis and the fight is ongoing to clean up all the one ‘chance syndicate’ and 419ers in the area. It is not easy but we are winning,” he said.
Also commenting, FCT Police Public Relations Officer, Deputy Superintendent Hyelhira Altine Daniel, advised residents to always call the command’s control room instead of calling the divisions when robbery occurs.
“Residents should call FCT Police Command on 08061581938, 07057337653, 08032003913, and 08028940883 once there are such incidents.
The police spokesperson re-assured residents of the command’s efforts to make the territory a safe place to live.
