The House of Representatives has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to order for the reappraisal of the modalities for the disbursement of the funds under the Victims Support Fund.
The House said this was to ensure probity, accountability and transparency in such a way that stakeholders would play vital roles in determining the actual victims of terrorism.
The House also urged the president to direct the committee to “constantly publish in its website, the names and pictures of beneficiaries of the funds, indicating clearly the amount of assistance rendered and make records of its activities available to the public in its secretariat or registry.”
The lawmakers further urged President Buhari to set up a technical committee that would ensure the judicious use of the funds.
The decision was reached after adopting a motion by Rep Asabe Vilita Bashir (APC, Borno). The lawmaker noted that the Victims Support Fund, headed by retired General T.Y. Danjuma has so far disbursed over N500 million to victims of terrorism but that the victims in Borno, Adamawa and Yobe still want more assistance.
