The House of Representatives Committee on National Intelligence and Security on Wednesday urged the National Intelligence Agency to intensify efforts in intelligence gathering and inter-agency synergy to tackle rising security challenges in the country.
The chairman of the committee, Sha’aban Ibrahim Sharada, gave the advice in his opening remark when the NIA appeared before the committee for the defence of its 2022 budget.
He said: “While the committee appreciates the output from all agencies under the umbrella of the national intelligence community, coordinated by the National Security Adviser, it has also observed the need to intensify more efforts especially in intelligence gathering and inter agency collaboration to eliminate disturbing national crimes especially banditry, insurgency and kidnapping whose operations are propelled by information procured and mismanaged by undesirable members of the society.”
He said in view of the enormous security challenges in the country, he proposed the exclusion of the national intelligence agencies from the envelope budgetary system in future national budgets.
