The House of Representatives on Wednesday passed for second reading, a bill seeking to regulate peacekeeping operations by the Nigerian military, the police, the civil defence and other security organisations.
The sponsor of the bill, Wole Oke, said Nigeria spent over $8bn in peacekeeping missions in ECOWAS countries like Cote d’Ivoire, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Mali and Sierra Leone.

He said despite being a major contributor to UN and non-UN peacekeeping missions, Nigeria lacked a regulatory framework guiding deployment and withdrawal of troops and security personnel from conflict zones.
