Reps mourn as Jigawa lawmaker, Dogonyaro is buried in Abuja

The House of Representatives has mourned one of its members, Rep. Isa Dogonyaro, representing Garki/Babura federal constituency of Jigawa State who died yesterday.

The lawmaker, who died at the age of 46, was laid to rest at the Gudu Muslim Cemetery in Abuja yesterday.

The House in a statement signed by its spokesperson and chairman House Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Akin Rotimi Jr, said the death of late Dogonyaro was a great loss to the House and Nigeria as a whole.

“Hon. Isa Dogonyaro was a dedicated and passionate legislator who served his constituents and the nation with utmost commitment. He was a pillar in the House, contributing significantly to the development of legislation, particularly in the area of HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria control, where he served as the deputy chairman of the House Committee.

“Elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, Hon. Dogonyaro was known for his integrity, diligence, and unwavering dedication to the welfare of the Nigerian people. His presence will be sorely missed in the hallowed chambers of the House of Representatives.

“In this moment of grief, our thoughts and prayers are with his family, constituents, colleagues, and the people of Jigawa State. We pray for strength and comfort for all who mourn his passing.

“May his gentle soul rest in peace and may the Almighty Allah (SWT) forgive his shortcomings and grant him Al-Janat Firdaus.” 

In the same vein, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajuddeen, has expressed shock and sadness over the death of the lawmaker.

In a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Musa Abdullahi Krishi, on Friday, the Speaker said the late lawmaker would be sorely missed by members of the House because of his invaluable contributions to nation-building during the brief period he served in the House.

He described late Dogonyaro as someone who gave a good account of himself in terms of providing good representation to his people.
