The Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Legislative Budget and Research, Golu Timothy, has appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to sign the bill establishing the National Assembly Budget and Research Office (NABRO), which will be transmitted to him this week.
Timothy made the appeal yesterday in Abuja, when he paid a courtesy visit to the headquarters of Media Trust Limited, the publisher of Daily Trust titles.
He said the establishment of the office was copied after the Congressional Budget Office of the United States of America, and other similar offices in the United Kingdom (UK), Uganda and Tanzania among others.
He urged President Buhari to assent to the bill so that it would become operational ahead of the 2018 national budget, which would soon be presented to the National Assembly.
Timothy said the lawmakers needed the professionals who would guide them just like those directing the executive under the Ministry of Budget and National Planning.
He said, “NABRO is an agency of National Assembly that is being established through the legislature so that we can have our own think thank or instruments for assessing the budget and working better with the Ministry of Budget under the executive in order to sensitize the public, government officials and the entire nation,” he said.
