Rep charges agric council to work harder for Act’s benefits

The Chairman, House Committee on Agricultural Colleges and Institutions, Hon. Munir Danagundi, has called on the Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria (ARCN) to immediately swing into action in order to drive the benefits of the Amendment of the council’s Act.

President Muhammadu Buhari had recently signed the ARCN (Amendment) Bill 2021 to boost agricultural activities in the country.

Danagundi made the call when he alongside members of the committee paid an oversight visit to the council in Abuja.

He said there was a need to do the needful in order to have a better research and development system in the country.

“The bill has a lot of good things that will change the system for a better Nigeria.

“I hope ARCN will be able to do the needful as soon as possible.

“On our part, we will continue to do our best to make sure they get the funding in terms of their capital, personnel and overhead,” the chairman said.

He lauded the council for establishing a museum, library and national radio and television stations among others set up to help the farming communities.

He said, “Here at ARCN, we have seen a lot of changes and development in terms of project execution.

“We commend them for what we have seen so far.

“We hope they will continue to do their best for the country and ensure that the comparative advantage in the country in terms of agriculture will be harnessed to the maximum.”

He said the radio and television stations would help the council generate income to ensure sustainability.
