The General Secretary of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Dr. Sanusi Mohammed, has said the football federation was pained by the early exit of the duo of Enyimba FC and Remo Stars from this year’s CAF Champions League but the latter’s elimination was more painful.
It will be recalled that Enyimba and Remo Stars were bundled out of the elite division of the CAF inter-club competitions at the Preliminary Round stage.
While Enyimba were sent packing by Al Ahly Benghazi after they failed to score at least a goal in the return leg in Aba, Remo Stars won their match against Medeame of Ghana 1-0 for in Ikenne for a 1-1 aggregate score but faltered in the penalty shoot-out where they were beaten 3-2.
In his reaction, Mohammed said considering their impressive performances in the 2023 NPFL season, so much was expected from the two clubs but they failed to live up to expectations.

“It was painful that the teams couldn’t go beyond the first round of the CAF Champions League. We had high hopes, but it was dashed.
“What happened to Remo Stars was more painful. Well, football is like that,” said the NFF chieftain.
He, therefore, charged the duo of Bendel Insurance and Rivers United who are the two NPFL clubs left in the Confederation Cup to be worthy ambassadors of the country.
