An elder statesman and former presidential candidate of the United Progressive Party (UPP), Chief Chekwas Okorie, has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to sack any of the newly sworn in ministers that cannot deliver on the change agenda of the government in the interest of the nation.

Chief Okorie, who spoke with Daily Trust in a telephone interview, yesterday, said the president had already done four years in office and should establish the fact that all the sectors needed to work optimally for the benefit of Nigerians.

The UPP helmsman said the National Assembly had given Buhari the benefit of the doubt by confirming all the ministerial nominees, adding that Nigerians were therefore expecting the ministers to be productive in their areas of jurisdiction.

“I believe Mr. President knows they can deliver the kind of governance he wants and I also believe the ministers will deliver on their mandates. The National Assembly didn’t disqualify any of the nominees. So, let’s give them the benefit of the doubt.

“But in the event any of them failed to deliver on his or her mandate, I also believe Mr. President will not hesitate to relieve them of their appointments.

“I’m also comfortable with the way Mr. President has restructured the presidency,” Chief Okorie said.
