About 2,000 students within the Jos metropolis have been counselled on career choices, says the Read, Learn and Grow Literacy of Nigeria (RELEGLON), a Plateau-based organisation.

The organisation’s Programme Manager, Miss Devine Nelson, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Jos on Saturday.

She said that the students were also trained on craft making and phonetics.

“The training is part of our mandate to ensure students make informed choices, become self-reliant and be proficient in communication.

“Our organisation was instituted to promote literacy in Nigeria; we are starting in Plateau, but would soon expand to Bauchi, Lagos and Rivers States.

“We have trained more than 2,000 students from 10 schools in Jos metropolis from 2014 to 2016.

“They were trained on paintings, bead making, basket making and leather works amongst others.

“The training on career building also was to make them knowledgeable of the various careers and what it entails to be one,” she said.

Nelson also said that the organisation was involved in rekindling the students’ interest in reading.

“We have also trained both the students and their teachers on phonetics as part of efforts to rekindle the dwindling reading culture in the country and shore up the level of literacy,” she said.
