Relegation-threatened Plateau United host Enyimba in rescheduled fixture

Plateau United who are presently faced with relegation will play host to Enyimba this afternoon in a rescheduled Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) week 18 match at the New Jos Township Stadium.

The week 18 match was postponed due to the continental engagement of Enyimba.

The former African champions are representing Nigeria in the CAF Confederation Cup.

After the three point deduction imposed on Plateau United over acts of hooliganism, the former NPFL champions are now rooted at the bottom of the table with 18 points from 17 matches.

While the coach Mbwas Mangut tutored side have won six, drawn three and lost eight matches, Enyimba have won five, drawn seven and lost only two out of 14 matches to occupy the 12th position on the table.

Therefore, the week 18 fixture is crucial for Plateau United who must avoid defeats, especially at home if they are to stand any chance of surviving the relegation fight.

When the two clubs met at this stage last season, Plateau United managed to edge out Enyimba 1-0 at home courtesy of Adam Yakubu Hassan’s strike in the 8th minute of the match.

However, the ‘People’s elephants’ took back their pound of flesh when they inflicted a 2-0 defeat on Plateau United in the return leg in Aba.

After a barren first half, season’s highest goal scorer, Chijioke Mbaoma, opened the scoring for Enyimba in the 78th minute before Alade Muyiwa Balogun sealed victory for the hosts with the second goal in the 87th minute.
